Change of pace: Mr West Cafe Bar.

Located in the space previously occupied by a cooking store, it offers unique cuisine at U Village.

The menu is of small plates but everything we’ve had has been quite good. Think cheese and charcuterie plates, soups, salads and sandwiches. Also offered are all day breakfast choices…not your typical eggs and bacon.

Wine, while somewhat limited, include new and old world choices and orange wines. You ask, what’s and orange wine? It’s a white wine made like a red…fermented on the skins which gives it more tannins and body than your average non oaked white wine. The technique is many millenia old and originally hails from the Caucasus. The best examples, in my opinion, are from the Republic of Georgia. More on orange wines can be found here. A good selection of cocktails is available as well.

On a nice day they have alfresco options in the front, facing the U Village core and the back, facing the “street”. Despite that, the back is cozier with a wall blocking the minimal noise from the limited, slowly moving traffic.

The space is open and modern with a low noise level. So, grab a beer or glass of wine and pair it all with your favorite food choice. Want to take something you had home? Check out the larder for wines and more.

There is also a location downtown on Olive and a coffee spot in Madrona.

Very good service.
