High end Indian: Nirmal’s
The space is beautiful and located in the historic Pioneer Square area. It has received multiple accolades including Zagat’s top 15 hottest new restaurants in the US….we needed dinner out so this was the choice. It’s nice to again have an Indian option downtown like we had several years ago with Shanik in South Lake Union which sadly closed in 2015.
We went with most of the waitstaff’s choices but the menu is one that makes you want to choose too much so watch out. It’s also fair to say that this will likely be your most expensive Indian meal. Our favorite dish was the Hara Bara Tiki which was spicy and delicious.
Curries come by the whole page. Our choices were Chingri Malai (shrimp) and the Sabz Achari….the vegetable was eggplant this night. The former was buttery and good but we were a bit disappointed by the latter. It was a bit to tart with a strong lime flavor. Several Naans were offered and the garlic variety was a good choice and well executed. Wine choice was a Chateau Ste Michelle Riesling which was a perfect pairing, with slight residual sugar. This helped with the spiciness of the dishes.
Ended with a classic….Gulab Jamun which was nicely done and typical of the dish.
