Nice small place on the Burke for French plates: Saint Helens
We’ve been here a few times and since traffic around the UW is a mess today we decided for another experience rather than fight the traffic.
The space is small but usually not crowded so reservations probably aren’t necessary, on weekdays at least. I suspect it’s different on a weekend especially if it’s nice out….they are right on the bike trail and have alfresco dining.
One must have from the current menu is the burrata….served with beautifully toasted bread, a wonderful tomato jam and rapini pesto. The steak frites was perfectly prepared, medium rare, with mounds of fries….hard not to pig out! Our other entree was the spring pasta……gnocchetti with chili goat cheese, English peas, asparagus, leeks and king oyster mushrooms. While I’m not much of a vegetarian, this dish was excellent.
Finished with the pot du creme which was huge. This dish was good but I’ve had better….even with a smaller portion.
The wine was a very good light Rosé from Provence.
