Rediscovered: Shan.
Visited a few years ago and didn’t post a review so it was in need of another visit. Story is that the owners lived and operated several restaurants in China and Thailand over a number of years before winding up in Bozeman. About a year later they opened this pan Asian outpost in 2023. The cuisine is described as a fusion of Northern Thai and Southwest Chinese with a focus on local ingredients.
Have tasted most of the menu realizing some of the choices change over time depending on local availability. Like Chinese cucumber salad? One of the best examples I’ve had. Same with the sticky tamarind ribs and of course they were pork since things always go better with pork. They were perfectly grilled, tender and sweet…perfect. Give any of the noodle dishes a go but recommend the Dan Dan over Yibin kindling noodle although the later had more depth of flavor. Like duck? The duck rice (soup) is also excellent.
Would recommend placing your order over time and not all at once since the food arrives from the kitchen when it’s ready. So, start with a few appetizers/salad followed by entrees. It’s also a place to share your choices and would recommend one entree per person.
Very helpful and knowledgeable staff.
