Back in Philly again and had a quick dinner after my last meeting at Buddakan.

This is a very large and gorgeous space near Independence Hall. For drinks had a Kyoto Mule followed by a very nice, dry Spanish Rosados with dinner. Started with Szechuan Pork Dumplings as an appetizer and for the main, had to have the Five Spice Duck Breast with spoon bread. All very delicious but the real highlight was dessert: Jivara Chocolate Palet…caramelia crème brulee with Vietnamese coffee ice cream, miso caramel corn and kinako power. This may be the best dessert I think I have ever had!

On another recent visit with a large group we had a tasting of many of their offerings with several standouts: tuna pizza, tea smoked spareribs, grilled lamb chops and curried cauliflower. Wines included a nice light pinot noir from the Languedoc and a Spanish rosé of tempranillo. Desserts to mention: “Dip Sum” doughnuts and chocolate mousse…not the typical offering….blackberry yogurt panna cotta, dark chocolate cake, black sesame brittle.
