Quarantine: Socially distanced Thanksgiving.

Had to wait for everyone to complete quarantine to celebrate this year so we waited till Sunday to celebrate.

Turkey was brined in buttermilk which made it very moist and flavorful. The sides were our typical: kale and Brussel sprouts salad, mashed potatoes with gravy, cornbread stuffing, walnut bread, Parker House yeast rolls and cranberry sauce. More than anyone could eat! The cornbread recipe was modified with 1/2 cup of polenta to improve its mouthfeel.

Desserts were pumpkin and pecan pie. A special mention for the pecan pie…pecans fresh off the tree from Alabama…our daughter brought them from the trees in her yard; across the country. I think it’s the best I’ve ever had!

Our wine? A 2007 Brunello di Montalcino…notes of red fruits…think cherries and raspberries. Tobacco on the nose with medium tannins. A great pairing with the richness of the turkey and dressing.
