New place in an old spot: Mr West U Village.
Located in the space previously occupied by a cooking store, this is a welcome addition to the pizza, chocolate and cupcake choices.
The limited menu is of small plates but everything we had was quite good. Think cheese and charcuterie plates, sandwiches and salads. Our choices, for happy hour, were the cheesemonger and focaccia with prosciutto boards. They were both good.
Wine choices are somewhat limited….with the usual red, white and rosé suspects. They also had an example of an orange….no, it’s not a wine made from oranges. It’s a white wine made like a red…fermented on the skins which gives it more tannins and body than your average non oaked white wine. The technique is many millenia old and originally hails from the Caucasus. It has become more popular recently so give one a try if you find an example on a wine list. The best examples, in my opinion, are from the Republic of Georgia. This example was from Austria and was not as complex and much closer to a tart white. A good selection of cocktails is available as well.
On a nice day they have alfresco options in the front, facing the U Village core and the back, facing the “street”. Despite that, the back is cozier with a wall blocking the minimal noise from the limited, slowly moving traffic. They also serve brunch on the weekend.
The space is modern with a low noise level so grab a beer or glass of wine and pair it all with your favorite food choice.
There is also a location downtown on Olive.
Very good service.
