A Seattle institution: The Pink Door.

The cuisine is Italian but this place is more than just food…..there are nightly shows that vary between music and on Saturdays, cabaret and burlesque! They even have a roving tarot card reader and trapeze artists…..as I said, it’s more than just food. The space is eclectic and alfresco dining is offered.

Started with Compass Point oysters which came with a very nice, tart pink balsamico ice as a garnish. The mains were Penn Cove mussels and clams done in white vermouth, garlic, parsley and cream and Pappardelle Bolognese which had a bit more cream than I like…..lean toward more tomato flavor in my bolognese.  I would highly recommend the contorni of spring pea sformato…a pea based custard which was light and wonderful. The wine this visit was a nice, dry rosato of Sangiovese from Tuscany.

It was a hot afternoon so we finished with the the trio of Sweet Lo’s ice cream….salted caramel was slightly better than the deep chocolate and both beat out the pistachio.  Dessert wine was a classic 2008 Tuscan Vin Santo.
